Reflectors

A bicycle must be equipped with at least one white reflector visible from the front. Yet a bicycle with more than two wheels must be equipped with at least two such reflectors placed max. 0.4 m within the extreme ends of the bicycle and with a mutual distance of at least 0.6 m.

A bicycle must be equipped with at least one red reflector visible from behind. Yet a bicycle with more than two wheels must be equipped with at least two such reflectors placed max. 0.4 m within the extreme ends of the bicycle and with at mutual distance of at least 0.6 m.

A bicycle must be equipped with at least two yellow reflectors that moves when the bicycle rides and which are visible from behind.

On each wheel a bicycle must be equipped with at least one yellow reflector visible from the sides or with white reflecting tire or rim sides.

A one-wheeled trailer for a bicycle must be equipped with at least one white reflector visible from the front and at least one red reflector visible from behind. The reflectors on the trailer must be placed in the center section or left hereof. A two-wheeled trailer for a bicycle must be equipped with at least two white reflectors visible from the front and at least two red reflectors visible from behind.

The reflectors must be placed as close to the extreme ends of the trailer as possible. A bicycle side car must be equipped with at least one white reflector visible from the front and at least one red reflector visible from behind. The relectors must be placed as close to the extreme right end of the side car as possible.

A trailer for a bicycle must be equipped with at least two yellow reflectors on each side visible from the side or with at least one yellow reflector on each wheel visible from the sides. A bicycle side car must be equipped with at least two yellow reflectors on the right side visible from the side or with at least one yellow reflector on the wheel visible from the side.

A bicycle, trailer or side car must not be equipped with a triangle reflector. Reflectors in a pair must be alike.

A bicycle, trailer or side car can be equipped with supplementary reflectors if following rules are followed: reflectors that are firmly mounted and are pointing forward must be white. Reflectors that are pointing backwards must be red and reflectors pointing to the side must be yellow. Moving reflectors must be yellow.
Despite these rules a reflector bought before 1. January 1998 may still be used. a prescribed reflector bought before 1. January 1998 must be E or e-marked or marked with another approval system.
